As the scaffold comes down at the former Post Office on London Road North, a celebratory evening is being held to mark the progress made at the building, as well as the unveiling of a project delivered through the London Road, Lowestoft Heritage Action Zone Cultural Programme.
We are delighted to invite you to a special event celebrating the former Post Office at 5:30pm on Tuesday 22nd November 2022 at East Point Pavilion, Lowestoft. Tickets are free, but we kindly ask you to register your attendance via Eventbrite to avoid disappointment as this is anticipated to be a popular event.
The Heritage Action Zone has been working closely with First Light Festival to create an ode to the much-loved, historic building. A poem celebrating the story of the former Post Office and the town’s history over the last 130 years has been written by Luke Wright, who will be providing a special reading at East Point Pavilion. Alongside Luke’s poem, a new piece of artwork by Lucinda Rogers has been commissioned, which has been published in a book with the elegy to the Post Office.
The evening will also include an introduction from Genevieve Christie (First Light Festival), in addition to an overview from the HAZ Project Manager about the restoration works to the exterior of the Grade II listed building.
The project, which commenced in January 2022 and is now nearing completion, has been made possible with financial backing from East Suffolk Council, Historic England, and HM Government’s Towns Fund.

East Suffolk Council are starting to form a new plan for the former Sanyo and Survitec factory sites, north of Victoria Road and near the marina. Most of the site has stood vacant since 2009, with the Council acquiring the land in 2018 as part of its approach to assemble and accelerate the development of land in central areas of Lowestoft, intervening where the private sector has been unwilling or unable to proceed due to significant viability and market failure issues.

Initiated by East Suffolk Council through the North Lowestoft Heritage Action Zone, in 2021 the North Lowestoft Heritage Action Zone Scores and Triangle Market Feasibility Study was developed to help shape the future development of North Lowestoft, identifying ways to enhance public spaces and improve connectivity with the overall aim of enhancing the area for residents and visitors.
The report, which was prepared by consultants Jon Sheaff and Associates on behalf of East Suffolk Council, provides conceptual design proposals to help support future regeneration plans for the town. Please note that the designs are not final and do incorporate proposals where there are opportunities for us to work in partnership with landowners.
The Council continues to explore key areas identified in the document to enhance the Historic Quarter, and has worked with LDA Design to bring detailed designs for the Scores to RIBA stage 3. Following our event at Lowestoft Library on Monday 18 March, we are pleased to share the proposals for the Scores with you.
