The Grit: Lowestoft Centre for the Arts & Heritage

Multi Artform

About

The Grit is an ambitious new centre for the arts and heritage in Lowestoft.

The centre occupies a large area of the iconic magistrate’s court in Old Nelson Street, and provides a landmark space in which art and sculpture is presented alongside a programme of art events, evening performance, cinema, and community activities.

As part of its remit, The Grit has a particular obligation to celebrate and promote the unique heritage of Lowestoft. The Grit comprises a large exhibition space; performance hall(s); a cinema; heritage centre, gallery and archive with attached reading room; multi-purpose community spaces; meeting rooms; rehearsal spaces; ticket/box office, cinema retail area and shop; and casual dining.

We have large, light, and open spaces, with accessible toilet facilities and great street access for immediate hire to clubs, groups, and community organisers, and gallery/performance space for performers, exhibitors, and creatives.
