An Exciting Stage for the Cultural Quarter Project
On Wednesday 4th October, we unveiled the plans for the Cultural Quarter project alongside the Design Team, Chaplin Farrant. The public were invited to view an exhibition of the designs for the area, with the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback on the designs.
The plans have been designed in readiness for a planning application to be submitted in November and this was an opportunity for people to let us know whether the project would help boost the Town Centres future.
Those engaged previously (at events and workshops held over the last 3 years) had told us what they wanted in the town centre; we listened carefully and fed your thoughts into these designs, with Wednesday’s event providing the opportunity to show how we have done this.
There was a great turnout with over eighty people attending the event, consisting of local residents and businesses, who provide useful comments and positive feedback. Photos were taken, interviews were held with the local press, and a highlight for many was being able to view the designs through a Virtual Reality headset, which you too can experience here.
Once completed, the Cultural Quarter will provide more things to do, places to meet, activities for wet weather days and support with improving Lowestoft image as a great place to visit (although like many, we already know this through living locally ourselves).

The Cultural Quarter is one of five transformational regeneration projects planned for Lowestoft. It will involve the redevelopment of East Suffolk Council’s current Customer Services Centre and the site of the former Battery Green multi-storey car park.
When complete, the scheme will deliver a vibrant cultural and community hub featuring studio space for creative businesses, a competitive leisure complex, a restaurant, and significant improvements to the surrounding landscape.
