Works have been underway at the former Post Office on London Road North since January 2022 to carry out conservation repairs to the fabric of the Grade II listed building, in preparation for internal works to be completed next year.
Delivered through the London Road, Lowestoft Heritage Action Zone, the works are being funded by East Suffolk Council, Historic England, as well as HM Government’s Towns Fund and use traditional conservation techniques to repair the exterior of the building.
As part of the restoration, we are holding a two workshops on 8th June 2022 where you can come and learn from the specialist tradespeople working on the Post Office and experience practical demonstrations showing conservation repairs.
These talks and demonstrations are aimed at anyone with an interest in traditional building repairs including people who live in older buildings and are interested in learning more about how to repair and maintain historic material.

We will be hosting these sessions at the former Post Office on Thursday 8th June 2022 at 10am and 2pm. As these sessions will take place at the Post Office which is a live construction site, we have to limit the number of places to 15 per session. Please note that there will be photography and filming at the event which will be used in promotional material for the Heritage Action Zone, East Suffolk Council and Historic England. If you wish to attend but do not wish to be included in photographs, please make this known.
As these sessions are being delivered from a live construction site, please dress appropriately (no shorts) and wear hard soled shoes – participants will be provided with hard hats and hi-vis as necessary. Part of the session will also be delivered on the first floor, so participants will be required to climb two flights of stairs.
